Getting started

Does Qivo come with channels?

No. Qivo is a media player: it doesn’t sell, provide or recommend any channels, playlists or subscriptions. It plays the live TV, movies and series from a provider or playlist that you add yourself, and you need to be authorised to watch what that provider offers.

If you don’t have a provider yet, we’re afraid we can’t recommend one.

How do I add a provider?
  1. The first time you open Qivo, accept the terms and tap Add Your Provider. Later, open Settings and choose Add Provider (“Xtream Codes login or M3U playlist”).
  2. Choose Xtream Codes or M3U Playlist, and enter the details your provider sent you.
  3. Give it a name if you like, such as “Living Room TV”, and tap Connect.
  4. Qivo loads your channels, TV guide, movies and series, then lets you choose which categories to show.

Settings is in the tab bar or sidebar; on iPhone, tap your profile picture at the top of Home. Add as many providers as you like: they come together in one library and guide.

Xtream Codes or M3U playlist: which should I use?

Use whatever your provider gave you:

  • Xtream Codes: a Server URL (such as http://provider.example:8080), a username and a password. Qivo gets your live TV, movies, series and TV guide, and shows your account status and expiry date.
  • M3U Playlist: a Playlist URL, plus a TV Guide URL if your provider has one.

If you have both, Xtream Codes usually gives you the richer library, with details for movies and series. An M3U link containing get.php?username=…&password=… usually comes from an Xtream Codes server: try the part before /get.php as the Server URL, with that username and password.

Where’s the TV guide, and why are some channels empty?

The guide is in Live TV. On iPad, Mac and Android tablets it’s a full timeline with a “now” line; on phones each channel shows what’s on now; on a TV, focus a channel to see what’s on.

Guide data comes from your provider. Xtream Codes providers supply it automatically. For an M3U playlist, add the TV Guide URL your provider gave you; without one, Qivo uses the guide address in the playlist, if it has one. A channel stays empty when your provider’s guide doesn’t include it.

Libraries refresh automatically twice a day while Qivo is open. To refresh now, open Settings, select your provider and tap Refresh Now.

How do I choose categories and favourites?
  • Categories: open Settings ▸ Categories and switch off the genres and regions you never watch. They disappear everywhere, and you can turn them back on anytime.
  • Favourite channels: touch and hold a channel (or press and hold on a TV remote) and choose Add to Favorites. You’ll find them under Favorites in Live TV.
  • Favourite categories: touch and hold a category and choose Add to Favorites to pin it to the top of Live TV, Movies or Series.
  • My List: on a movie or series page, tap the + button to save it for later.

Watching

A channel or video won’t play, or keeps buffering
  • Check that your provider account is active: open Settings and select the provider to see its status and expiry date.
  • Providers limit how many streams you can watch at once. Another device, or a recording in progress, may be using a connection.
  • In Settings ▸ Playback, try Buffering ▸ Resilient, a lower Streaming Quality, or switching Hardware Decoding off (or back on).
  • Stream addresses can change: open Settings, select your provider and tap Refresh Now.
  • If it doesn’t play anywhere else either, the stream itself is down: please contact your provider.
How do I change the audio language or subtitles?

Choose your preferred languages in Settings ▸ Playback ▸ Audio Language and Subtitles. Qivo uses them whenever a stream offers them.

Can I stop the next episode from starting on its own?

Yes: turn off Settings ▸ Playback ▸ Auto-play Next Episode.

Can I watch on my TV?

Qivo runs on Apple TV, Android TV and Google TV: install it there and add your provider. From a phone or tablet, Qivo Premium adds AirPlay (iPhone and iPad), Chromecast and external displays.

Downloads & recordings

Can I download or record?

Yes, on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android:

  • Download movies and episodes with the Download button on their pages.
  • Record a channel from Live TV: right now, from the guide, or at a time you choose.
  • Find everything in Settings ▸ Downloads & Recordings, and watch it without a connection.

Apple TV doesn’t keep downloads: tvOS gives apps no lasting storage. Only download or record what you’re allowed to.

Why did a recording stop, or not start?
  • A recording uses one of your provider’s connections, so it can stop when your provider’s limit is reached.
  • On iPhone and iPad, Qivo has to stay open while it records (iOS pauses apps in the background), and a scheduled recording only starts if Qivo is running at that time. A notification reminds you.
  • On Mac, Qivo records while it’s running, even in the background, and your Mac is awake.
  • On Android 12 and later, allow Qivo Alarms & reminders so scheduled recordings start on time.
  • Qivo stops downloading and recording when less than 500 MB of storage is free.

Qivo Premium

What does Qivo Premium unlock?

Watching on a bigger screen from your phone or tablet: AirPlay (iPhone and iPad), Chromecast and external displays over HDMI or USB-C. It’s a monthly or yearly subscription that renews automatically until you cancel, and it doesn’t include any channels or content.

To subscribe, open Settings ▸ Qivo Premium ▸ Get Qivo Premium.

I subscribed, but Premium isn’t unlocked on this device

Make sure the device is signed in to the Apple Account or Google account you subscribed with, then open Settings ▸ Qivo Premium ▸ Restore Purchases.

App Store and Google Play subscriptions are separate: one bought on an iPhone doesn’t unlock Premium on Android, or the other way round. Premium’s features work on phones and tablets.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

In Qivo, open Settings ▸ Qivo Premium ▸ Manage Subscription. Or go straight to your store account:

When you cancel, Premium stays active until the end of the period you’ve paid for. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel your subscription. Apple and Google handle all payments, so refunds are requested from them: reportaproblem.apple.com for the App Store, or Google Play’s refund help.

Your data & new devices

I have a new device. Do I have to type my login again?

Usually not. Qivo saves the logins that connected successfully:

  • iPhone, iPad and Mac share them through iCloud Keychain. With iCloud Keychain turned on, open Add Provider on the new device and tap Use under “Saved logins on your devices”.
  • Android keeps them with Google’s Block Store. They come along when you set up your new phone or tablet from your Google backup or by transferring from your old one. Cloud backup needs end-to-end encryption, which usually means your old device had a screen lock.

Apple TV keeps its own saved logins, and devices without Google Play services don’t save them. Favourites, watch progress and downloads stay on each device.

What does Qivo know about me?

Very little. There’s no Qivo account, and Qivo’s own code has no ads or tracking: your providers, library, favourites and progress stay on your device, and passwords are kept in the Keychain or Android Keystore-encrypted storage. To show what’s trending, the apps send us the IMDb or TMDB ID of what you watch, with no account or device ID, so it isn’t linked to you; you can turn that off in Settings ▸ Share Anonymous Viewing Trends. The Privacy Policy has the details.

How do I delete my data?
  • Open Settings, select a provider and tap Remove Provider. This removes its channels, movies and series, your favourites and progress with them, and its login, and forgets its saved login on your other devices.
  • Delete downloads and recordings in Settings ▸ Downloads & Recordings.
  • Clear cached artwork with Settings ▸ About ▸ Clear Artwork Cache.
  • Deleting Qivo removes its library, settings and downloads from an iPhone, iPad, Apple TV or Android device. On Apple devices, remove your providers first: the Keychain keeps their passwords after the app is deleted (and keeps the parental-controls PIN). On a Mac, also delete the folder ~/Library/Containers/net.mindzone.Qivo, which holds Qivo’s library, settings and downloads.
  • Removing your providers before you delete Qivo also erases their saved logins from your other devices.
Can I restrict what children can watch?

Yes. In Settings ▸ Parental Controls, turn them on, choose the Allowed Ratings and switch on Hide Adult Categories. Restricted content then needs a 4-digit PIN, which starts as 1234: change it straight away with Change PIN.

Parental controls work from the ratings and categories your provider supplies, so they can’t catch everything.

Still stuck?

Email us and we’ll get back to you. Tell us your device, the Qivo version (Settings ▸ About) and what happened, but never send your provider password.
